defense primes

Where the term shows up The term appears in the Not Boring writer Packy McCormick's discussion of his techno-industrial investment thesis [^a8fc1da7@]. He describes Anduril — smaller, cheaper, software-infused hardware — as taking on cost-plus risk against the defense primes, delivering a better product to government. In that framing, the defense primes are the large incumbents that Anduril's model is built to compete with, and their weaknesses (sclerosis in incumbents like Boeing) are part of the “why now” behind the thesis.
