/setup
/setup is the Compound Engineering plugin's interactive customization command. Running it creates a compound engineering local md file where you configure which agents run during the review and work stages — the two points where customization is most useful. If that file doesn't exist, the plugin falls back to Kieran's defaults; if it does, it's automatically detected and applied at the right time. /setup also detects your system (Rails, Python, TypeScript, etc.) and guides you through adapting the plugin to your stack — including swapping in your own skills, using Linear instead of markdown plan files, or GitLab instead of GitHub [^45fde771-1fa4-5519-a1bd-1c6cdabd8394@0]. It's a first-class feature because Compound Engineering is a working method, not a fixed tool — Kieran's shipped configuration is simply how he works, meant to be explored and rebuilt as your own. As he put it: [^45fde771-1fa4-5519-a1bd-1c6cdabd8394@438]They think it's just a tool, but it's actually more than a plugin.[/footnote]
